Acceptance is a huge part of owning your grief, particularly when it comes to friendship. Losing your best friend, the person you expected to partner with long into old age, magnifies the value of friends who remain in your life and those who come into your life unexpectedly after the loss.
Accepting the fact that certain past friends will choose to walk away from a relationship with you is hard, but at the same time it opens up the possibilities that true friends, old and new, can represent.
Their support is an absolute gift that helped me accept that I could move forward without having to bury the monumental importance that Steve would always play in my life and the lives of my children.
